Laminate flooring is made up of four basic layers.

Decor Paper

The design layer is a melamine decorative film which is reproduced from a real material, be it natural wood or stone. By using sophisticated computer graphic scanning technology, the original designs can be reproduced onto the melamine films, making it totally unnecessary to extract from natural resources. Printing of the designs does not involve any hazardous chemicals or heavy metals. Instead, printing is only done with water-based inks. No effort is spared to ensure that the product lives up to its name of being an environmental friendly product.

Overlay

On top of the Design layer is actually another transparent layer which acts as the anti-abrasive protector that makes the floor very scratch resistant. It is made up of an aluminum oxide compound and this is what makes the floor so durable and resilient.

The Core

The core of the floorboard is made from high density wood fibreboard or HDF in short. It consists of wood fibres compressed together under high temperature and pressure. It is more resistant to impact and is considered a more ideal material than natural wood because its quality is more consistent and is pre-determined during the production process. The wood used in the production of HDF is generally sourced from plantation forests or wood industry by-products, thus eliminating further exploitation of our natural forests. The HDF used in Kendall flooring has the added advantage of being water resistant, unlike many of its competitors, because of the exclusive use of tropical hardwood.

The Base

These 3 layers are balanced up by a thick backing layer on the bottom surface. This layer ensures the dimensional stability of the flooring panel. Being a melamine film itself, it also provides a second function as a moisture protector.
